5/6/2002 Linfield senior art focus of final exhibit
McMINNVILLE ? The work of six Linfield College senior art students will be on display during the Thesis Exhibition, the final exhibit of the school year at the Linfield Fine Art Gallery.
The show will run May 15 through June 2 in the Fine Art Gallery of the James F. Miller Fine Arts Center. An opening reception will be held Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the gallery. It is free and open to the public.
Some 50 oil and acrylic paintings will be featured in the show. Seniors exhibiting work include Eric Bennett of Boise, Idaho; Nick Clearwater of Springfield; Sara Davis of Hillsboro; Kate Kauffman of Newport; Alison Newey of St. Helens; and Aaron Schlosberg of Anchorage, Alaska.
The six student artists are all members of the two-semester studio thesis course, which requires students to create a complete body of work ending with a culminating show. For most, this is the first opportunity to exhibit their art, according to Newey, who is designing a three-panel mural for Peterson Hall on Linfield's Portland Campus.
"We each approached our thesis projects with a general idea or theme that has evolved into some phenomenal work that has exceeded our original expectations," Newey said. "Our goal has been to create a body of work that remains unified as well as revealing improvement and growth as young artists."
The Linfield Fine Art Gallery is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. To reach the gallery, from 99W turn on Keck Drive across from Roth's IGA in south McMinnville. Follow the drive to the main parking lot. The art gallery is located on the west end of the parking lot. For more information, call 503-883-2275.
