The performance will feature Denise Westby on flute, Karen Strand on oboe, Mark Casperson on clarinet, Ann Crandall on bassoon and Bill Stalnaker on horn.
The group will play a variety of pieces including “Quintett, Op. 70” by August Klughardt, “Sonatine Bureaucratique” by Erik Satie, “Three Shanties for Wind Quintet” by Malcom Arnold, “Kleine Kammermusik für fünf Bläser” by Paul Hindemith and “Lluvia de Estrellase” by Osmar Maderna.
Westby, adjunct flute professor at Linfield, has performed as the principal flutist with Sinfonia Concertante Orchestra and freelances with other ensembles ranging from classical to rock and roll. She also has a private studio in Portland.
Strand, a graduate of University of Oregon and the Eastman School of Music, is professor of oboe at Portland State University. She plays the oboe and English horn in the Portland Opera Orchestra and performs regularly with groups and music festivals in the Pacific Northwest. Casperson has performed as principal clarinet with the Portland Opera since 1985 and is a frequent performer with other Portland area orchestras.
Crandall performs with the Portland Opera and the Oregon Ballet Theatre orchestras. She has been instructor of bassoon at Portland State University since 1992 and freelances with other ensembles including Sinfonia Concertante Orchestra. Stalnaker was the associate principal horn with the Oregon Symphony in the 1970s and 1980s and is an active brass teacher and hornist in the Portland area.
