11/27/2007 Fall commencement scheduled at Linfield College
McMINNVILLE – A total of 137 candidates for degrees will be presented at Linfield College's fall commencement exercises Sunday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
There are 38 candidates for bachelor's degrees from the McMinnville Campus, 55 from the Portland Campus and 44 from the Adult Degree Program.
Closing Convocation for the Portland Campus will be Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in downtown Portland.
President Thomas L. Hellie will preside over commencement exercises. David Sumner, associate professor of English and director of writing at Linfield, will present the commencement address, "The Difficult Promise of Reason."
Sumner's academic focus is rhetoric, American nature writing and Western American literature. He taught Western American literature and American nature writing at the University of Bayreuth in Germany last spring under the Fulbright Junior Faculty Lectureship Program. Prior to joining the faculty at Linfield, he taught at Weber State University, the University of Oregon and Brigham Young University. He has a bachelor's from the University of Utah, master's from Brigham Young University and Ph.D. from the University of Oregon.
