5/17/2007 Linfield hosts youth chamber orchestra
McMINNVILLE - The Oregon Pro Arte Youth Chamber Orchestra will present an evening of classical music on Thursday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium located in Melrose Hall at Linfield College.
Camaraderie, good times and hard work characterize Oregon Pro Arte Youth Chamber Orchestra (OPAYCO), which introduces talented young musicians to repertoire that challenges their gifts and promotes musical fellowship and understanding.
The concert will begin with "Dance of the Comedians" from Smetana's "Bartered Bride," under the direction of conductor Cindy Petty, music director for OPAYCO. Winners of the second biennial Linfield Chamber Orchestra concerto competition will then take the stage to perform with the orchestra directed by Michael Gesme, music director for the LCO. Linfield freshmen baritone Andrew Pohl and pianist Heidi Vanden Bos, and junior saxophonist Marty Bode will play a special encore performance of their concertos from a recent LCO concert. The program will conclude with Rossini's "Overture to Il Signor Bruschino" and Schubert's "Symphony No. 6 in C Major (Little), D 589" under the direction of Petty.
Tickets are available at the door the night of the concert with a suggested donation of $3 per person or $6 per family. The event is sponsored by the Linfield Chamber Orchestra. For more information call John Paul Bierly, Linfield Chamber Orchestra Administrator, at 503-883-2637.
