5/8/2006 Chamber music on tap at Linfield
McMINNVILLE - Nine Linfield College instrumental ensembles will present a chamber music recital on Tuesday, May 16, at 4 p.m. in Melrose Auditorium at Linfield.
The afternoon performance will feature groups made up mainly of students. Ensembles include the Linfield Brass Trio, Linfield Brass Quartet and Linfield Brass Choir, all led by Joan Haaland Paddock, professor of music; the Linfield Flute Choir, directed by Denise Westby, adjunct professor of music; the Linfield Saxophone Trio and the Linfield Woodwind Quintet, conducted by Steve Kravitz, adjunct professor of music; Linfield String Quartet and the Linfield "Vivaldi Strings," led by Karen Vincent, adjunct professor of music; and the Linfield Percussion Ensemble, directed by Kirsten Swanson, adjunct professor of music.
The performance will feature an original work, "Spontaneous Bassoon Fabricator" by Seann Branchfield, a Linfield senior and member of the Linfield Woodwind Quintet. Students will also play music by composers including Angel, Bartók, Borodin, Gustafson, Gossec, Joplin, Mouret, Mozart, Shaw, Shostakovich and Vivaldi.
