Theta Chi fraternity brothers will be on hand around the clock during the 12-day period to serve refreshments and accept donations from a recreational vehicle parked near Maxwell Field. The RV is being provided by Performance RV in McMinnville and Sodexo, Inc., the Linfield food service contractor, is donating refreshments.
Each of the 12 days will focus on a different category of giving, according to sophomore Robert Sherwood, who is coordinating the event along with sophomore Nabil Zerizef. In addition to financial contributions, the 40-member fraternity will collect items such as food, clothing, school supplies and sports equipment. Proceeds will benefit Kids on the Block, Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
"Weve set a goal each day for what we feel are necessary staples of the holiday season," Sherwood said. "We think its important for those of us who have the ability, to help anyone we can along the way. We have the resources at our disposal and its important to use them."
Zerizef said its also important to represent Linfield, Theta Chi and the local community in a positive light, and he hopes the event will dispel stereotypes about fraternities.
"As a brotherhood, were extremely dedicated to giving and helping the community," he said.
Theta Chi has more than 150 chapters across the nation. It has been on the Linfield campus for over 70 years.
