10/13/2005 Oregon short story writer to read at Linfield
McMINNVILLE ? Gina Ochsner, award-winning short story writer, will read from her latest collection, "People I Wanted to Be," and other work on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield College.
Ochsner is the winner of the Oregon Book Award and numerous national and international literary awards. Her stories have appeared in "The New Yorker" magazine and "The Best American Nonrequired Reading." She has won more than 20 awards for her writing.
"The Necessary Grace to Fall," Ochsner?s first collection of short stories, won the Flannery O?Connor Award for Short Fiction, the Oregon Book Awards? H.L. Davis Award for Fiction and the Pacific Northwest Bookseller?s Association?s 2003 Book Award for Fiction. Her newest book, "People I Wanted to Be" (Houghton Mifflin/Mariner), was released in May.
Ochsner received a bachelor?s degree from George Fox University, a master?s degree in English from Iowa State University and a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Oregon.
