8/26/2005 Reed professor to speak at Linfield?s opening convocation
McMINNVILLE ? Peter Steinberger, professor of political science and dean of faculty at Reed College, will present the keynote address at opening convocation at Linfield College Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 4 p.m. in Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
Steinberger will speak on "What?s Interesting?" Opening convocation traditionally begins the academic year and is one of three formal academic rituals at Linfield. Faculty are robed in academic regalia and march in both a processional and recessional.
Steinberger has been at Reed since 1977. He received the Burlington Northern Award in recognition of distinguished teaching at Reed in 1989 and served as Reed?s acting president in 2001. In addition to teaching, he has served as department chair numerous times. He previously taught at the University of Denver and University of California, Riverside.
Steinberger is vice president of the Western Political Science Association and a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for "Review of Politics." He has also served on editorial boards for other agencies including Western Political Quarterly, Urban Resources and The Oregonian. He is the author of a number of books and articles and his writing has also been featured in numerous publications. He has both a B.A. and M.A. from Fordham University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside.
Convocation is open to the public.
