3/21/2005 Reading will highlight student poets
McMINNVILLE -- Linfield College advanced poetry students will be featured in an Oregon State Poetry Association reading Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at Third Street Books in McMinnville.
The reading will be hosted by Linfield professors and well-known Oregon poets Barbara Drake and Lex Runciman. They will read from their own works and introduce readings by the following students: Michelle Hosie, Lyssia Coffey, Michael Cline, Dimitri Davis, Tayler Brisbin, Emily Garland, Ellen Anderson, Glenn Stelson and Chipo Dendere.
Third Street Books will be donating to OSPA 10 percent of sales on the day of the
reading to help cover the costs of the association’s annual Student Poetry Contest, which provides recognition and encouragement to K-12 student poets statewide. This year the contest drew some 1,200 entries. Forty-three winners will receive cash prizes, medals and certificates in an awards ceremony during the OSPA?s Spring Poetry Festival to be held at Marylhurst
University on Saturday, April 16, and their winning poems will be published in OSPA?s annual anthology of prize-winning student poems, Cascadia.
The reading, which is free and open to the public, is one of several poetry readings at independent bookstores arranged by the OSPA during April, National Poetry Month.
