3/7/2005 Tuba faculty recital set at Linfield
McMINNVILLE ? The Linfield College Music Department and the University of Oregon Tuba Euphonium Ensemble will present a recital on Friday, April 1, at 8 p.m. in Melrose Auditorium at Linfield College.
The recital will include performances by Cody Forcier, adjunct professor of music at Linfield, on tuba and Michael Grose, associate professor of tuba at the University of Oregon.
Forcier, a graduate of the University of Nevada, is currently working on his master of music degree in tuba performance at the University of Oregon. He was a finalist in the first tuba solo contest at the Harvey Phillips Northwest Big Brass Bash in Boise, Idaho, and is a University of Oregon Athletic Bands graduate teaching fellow. He has performed with the Reno Philharmonic, Nevada Opera, Reno Jazz Orchestra, Oregon Mozart Players, Foundation Orchestra, Rudy Mountain Symphony, Carson City Symphony, Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company, Reno Municipal Band, Harrah?s Showroom Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra Academy of the Pacific.
Grose, who earned his bachelor?s and master?s degrees from Northwestern University, has been a faculty member at the University of Oregon since 2001. Prior to coming to Oregon, Grose was principal tubist of the Savannah Symphony Orchestra and the Hilton Head Orchestra. He is currently the principal tubist of the Eugene Symphony. An accomplished chamber musician, Grose was the recipient of the sweepstakes award at the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition, making him the first tubist to receive that prize. He has also been a prize winner at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition in Pasadena, Calif. Grose is a founding member of the Millar Brass Ensemble and has recorded on the London/Decca and Crystal Records labels.
