2/24/2005 History lecture scheduled at Linfield
McMINNVILLE ? Norman Jones, chair of the history department at Utah State University, will present "Teaching Religious Hatred and Promoting Civility in Elizabethan England" Thursday, March 10, at 7:30 p.m. in Jonasson Hall, lower level of Melrose Hall.
Jones has published approximately 30 scholarly articles and six books including "The English Reformation: Religion and Cultural Adaptation," "The Birth of the Elizabethan Age," "God and the Moneylenders," and the prize-winning "Faith by Statute." He has received grants and fellowships from the Huntington Library, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the University of Geneva in Switzerland and Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard Universities.
In addition to being a scholar and teacher, he has presented papers, organized conferences and served as a consultant concerning the content and process of teaching in America?s classrooms.
Jones received his bachelor?s degree from Idaho State University, his master?s from the University of Colorado and his Ph.D. from Cambridge University. He joined the faculty at Utah State University in 1978 and has served as the head of the Department of History since 1994.
