10/29/2004 Linfield to host fall Ultimate Frisbee
McMINNVILLE ? Sixteen men's and women's college and club teams from Oregon and Washington will converge on the Linfield College campus Sunday, Nov. 7, to participate in the third annual Linfield College Fall Ultimate Frisbee Turkey Shoot.
Ultimate Frisbee is a team sport resembling football. It is played on a field relatively the same size, with the object to score goals by catching the disc in the opposing team's end zone. Ultimate Frisbee is a non-contact sport played with a Frisbee and no pads. It began at college campuses on the East Coast of the United States in the 1960s and has since grown to include some 500 college and club teams throughout the country and many more around the world.
This year's competition will consist of one round of pool play in the morning, followed by championship and consolation brackets in the afternoon, eventually leading to the crowning of this year's champion men's and women's teams and recipients of the coveted "Turkey Shoot Frozen Turkey Trophy," won last year by Salem Ultimate's Club team. The competition will be held on the football and soccer practice fields east of the railroad tracks.
The event is free, open to the public and sponsored by the Linfield Ultimate Player's Association, an Associated Students of Linfield College Club Sport.
