10/20/2003 Linfield students, staff to participate in Make a Difference Day
McMINNVILLE ? Linfield students, faculty, and staff will fan out across Yamhill County on Saturday, Oct. 25, to volunteer their time and effort during the 13th annual Make a Difference Day.
Tina Dumonceaux, area director for volunteer services at Linfield, is organizing several projects for the event including a bowl-a-thon for Special Olympics and work for Newby Elementary School, downtown McMinnville, and many other non-profit organizations. The day serves as an opportunity for students to help out and meet the needs of the community in a variety of ways.
"Sometimes students get wrapped up in their lives and forget to look to help," said Dumonceaux, "We hope the day will get college students to look beyond themselves because they really have so much to offer."
Last year over 100 students and staff participated in a variety of projects in McMinnville and around the county, making a difference and working with 13 organizations.
Make a Difference Day is the largest community service effort in the U.S. It prompts corporations, government leaders, charitable organizations and individuals to volunteer and perform service projects for one day.
Anyone interested in participating should meet at 8:30 a.m. in Fred Meyer Lounge in Riley Hall on Oct. 25. For more information, contact Dumonceaux at 503-883-2636.
