12/10/2002 Theatre students ready to showcase talents
McMINNVILLE ? Linfield College theatre and literature students will showcase their semester's work in three performances this weekend.
Linfield College theatre students will present the Acting Showcase Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 5 p.m. in Pioneer Theatre. Each show will last approximately two hours.
Students in acting classes taught by Janet Gupton, assistant professor of theatre, and Ted deChatelet, adjunct professor of acting, are required to participate in the showcase to complete their course requirements. The scenes are approximately 10 minutes in length, with eight scenes playing each night.
Each scene will be accompanied by a set and will be introduced to the audience by Gupton and deChatelet. "Spinning into Butter" and "Blue Surge" by Rebecca Gilman will be featured in the showcase, along with "Proof" and "A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking." This will be the theatre department?s last production until spring.
Spotlight Performances from the Performing Literature class will be presented Sunday, Dec. 15, from 1 to 2 p.m. also in Pioneer Theatre. The class, taught by Jackson Miller, assistant professor of communication, will feature performances of prose and poetry by Leslie Marmon Silko, Cathy Song, James Seilsopour and Alice Bloch, as well as personal narratives. Students who will perform include Christiana Ries, Sarah Hahn, Emily Ohlsen, Chris Riddell, Tracy Forrester, Peter Gerber, Cisco Oldmen-Kam, Amanda Coleman, Oliver Ogden and Lauren Daaboul.
