10/16/2002 Linfield students, staff to participate in Make a Difference Day
McMINNVILLE ? Linfield students, faculty and staff will fan out across Yamhill County on Saturday, Oct. 26, to volunteer their time and effort during the 12th annual Make a Difference Day.
Linsay Carlson, volunteer service coordinator at Linfield, is organizing several projects for the event including painting decorations for the McMinnville Mayor's Ball, removing ivy at Lafayette Locks Park, constructing a trail with Yamhill County Parks, trimming hedges and bushes at Bethel Baptist Church in McMinnville and raking leaves on the Linfield campus. She also hopes to organize projects with SOLV, the Yamhill Basin Council, Newby Elementary School, Habitat for Humanity and many others.
"We are hoping that this day will be a huge effort on Linfield's part to participate in the community," Carlson said.
Last year over 150 students and staff worked on a variety of projects in McMinnville and around the county. Carlson is hoping for an even larger turnout this year.
Make a Difference Day is the largest community service effort in the U.S. It prompts corporations, government leaders, charitable organizations and individuals to volunteer and perform service projects for one day.
