9/27/2002 UPCOMING EVENTS AT LINFIELD COLLEGE

TUESDAY, OCT. 2-FRIDAY, NOV. 1

ART EXHIBIT: The work of Salem sculptor, painter and ceramist Lynn Charles Foster will be on display during "Plastic World: Recent Found Plastic Assemblages" at the Linfield College Fine Art Gallery Oct. 2 through Nov. 1. A slide lecture and opening reception will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in the gallery located in the James F. Miller Fine Arts Center. It is free and open to the public. TUESDAY, OCT. 8

ECOLOGY LECTURE: Edwin P. (Phil) Pister, a fishery biologist with the California Department of Fish and Game for 38 years, will present the Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds Endowed Ecology Lecture Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Melrose Auditorium. He will speak on "Desert Fishes: Reflections on Reality, Desirability and Conscience." It is free and open to the public. For more information, call 503-883-2498.

FACULTY LECTURE: Amy Orr, assistant professor of sociology, will present "Solving

the Mystery of Race and Achievement: Is Wealth the Final Clue?" on Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in 201 Riley Hall. For more information, call 503-883-2409.

PHILOSOPHY LECTURES: Robert C. Solomon, Quincy Lee Centennial Professor of Philosophy and Business and a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers, will present the Walter Powell-Linfield College Philosophy Lectures in Renshaw Gallery. He will speak on "Is Integrity Just Another Business Advantage?" Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. On Thursday, Oct. 10, at 8 p.m. he will speak on "Is Love Biology or is it a Social Invention?" HISTORY LECTURE: Helen Hardacre, a Reischauer Institute professor of Japanese Religions and Society at Harvard University, will speak on "Anime and the Science of Happiness: Crossroads of Japanese Popular Culture and Religion" Monday, Oct. 14, at 3 p.m. in 101 Graf Hall at Linfield College.
