4/16/2009 Linfield participates in annual youth service projects
McMINNVILLE More than 170 Linfield College students and staff members are expected to volunteer for Global Youth Service Day on Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Global Youth Service Day is a worldwide day of service meant to highlight the role that youth play in their communities. Service this year will be performed in more than 100 countries with millions of youth organizing and performing community service projects to address the needs of their local communities.
Linfield has participated in Global Youth Service Day for the past two years, performing service in the local community through partnerships with community non-profits, churches, schools, and governmental organizations. Past projects have included invasive species removal in the Cozine Creek area, building a play structure for a community shelter, clean-up, yard work, maintenance at various churches, and canned food/supply drives to benefit local service providers. This year service projects will support Henderson House, McMinnville Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity, McMinnville Water and Light and Yamhill Community Action Partnership.
