4/16/2009 Linfield forensics participates in national tournament
McMINNVILLE – The Linfield College forensics team succeeded in the 2009 U.S. Universities National British-Parliamentary Debate Tournament with their only team reaching the elimination round. The tournament was hosted by the University of Vermont April 2-6.
The tournament hosted 124 teams from around the world including the United States, India, South Africa, Great Britain, Canada and Israel. The event featured British-parliamentary debate and included six preliminary rounds of debate.
Morgan St. Jean, a senior from Portland, and Colin Jones, a sophomore from Hilo, Hawaii, placed 19th after the preliminary rounds and advanced to the octafinal round. Jackson Miller, director of forensics and associate professor of communication arts,was selected as one of the top 24 judges to judge the octafinal and quarterfinal rounds.
