4/9/2009 Linfield alumnus to read on campus
McMINNVILLE – Northwest author Bob Ferguson, a 1965 Linfield College graduate, will read from his book “Some Days Chicken, Some Days Feathers” on Thursday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield.
“Some Days Chicken, Some Days Feathers” is a memoir starting with Ferguson’s early recollections of harvesting potatoes as a preschooler and growing up in Oregon and ends with his discharge from the Marine Corps due to injuries sustained in Vietnam. The book is full of humor but also poignant Vietnam experiences. After teaching an eighth grade class about memoir writing, Ferguson decided to start writing his own.
Ferguson graduated from Linfield, entered the Marine Corp and became a photo reconnaissance officer. After the military he was director of Camp Easter Seal, a camp for handicapped kids near Coos Bay, a stock broker in Portland and owned a manufacturer’s representative agency. At 61 he earned his master’s in teaching and is now a substitute teacher.
The reading is free and open to the public. For more information contact Susan Barnes Whyte, college librarian, at 503-883-2517.
