3/24/2009 Linfield participates in Yellow Ribbon program
McMINNVILLE – Linfield College is participating in a program that will enable veterans and qualifying dependents to attend college tuition free.
President Thomas L. Hellie has announced the college's participation in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program.A provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008, the Yellow Ribbon program allows degree-granting institutions to partner with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public undergraduate tuition in the state. Veterans enrolling at Linfield for the 2009-10 academic year will have 100 percent of their tuition cost covered. Up to 10 veterans will be accepted in the program at Linfield.
“Linfield is pleased to have the opportunity to participate in the Yellow Ribbon program and to provide an affordable education for veterans who have served our country,” Hellie said.
There are several ways to qualify for Yellow Ribbon benefits. Veterans are eligible if they have served an aggregate period of active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, of at least 36 months or if they were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and they served 30 continuous days after Sept. 10, 2001. Veterans’ dependents qualify if they are eligible for a Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above.
Contributions to eligible individuals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and participating institutions must agree to provide contributions during all subsequent academic years in which the student maintains satisfactory progress, conduct and attendance.
Additionally, prospective students must meet all requirements for admission to Linfield College and must submit an application for admission. An application may be completed online at www.linfield.edu/admission-options.php.
