3/16/2009 Linfield mourns loss of Win Dolan
Win Dolan, who served as professor, dean, interim president and trustee of Linfield College, passed away Saturday, March 14, the day after his 100th birthday.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Saturday, March 21, at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in McMinnville. Condolences to Dolan’s family may be sent in care of Macy and Son, 135 NE Evans St., McMinnville, OR 97128.
"We are thankful for Win's dedication and commitment to Linfield College for more than 60 years," said President Thomas L. Hellie. "He was a warm and witty man who was an important and integral part of Linfield and the McMinnville community since moving here in 1948. He will be greatly missed."
Dolan taught mathematics and astronomy for 26 years, but his service to Linfield College was not limited to the faculty. He served as interim president twice and also had a stint as dean of faculty. After retiring, he served for more than 15 years on the Board of Trustees and held the rank of professor emeritus and trustee emeritus. He was active in the First Baptist Church in McMinnville and sang in the choir until just a few years ago. Last spring, he delighted and charmed graduates and families when he delivered the commencement address during the college's sesquicentennial celebration.
A full obituary will be published in the Wednesday, March 18, issue of the McMinnville News-Register, which can be accessed online at www.newsregister.com. To view a video of last spring's commencement address go to: http://www.support.linfield.edu/s/726/index.aspx?sid=726&gid=1&pgid=712
