3/12/2009 Linfield choir students participate in annual tour
McMINNVILLE – Members of the Linfield College Concert Choir will perform a concert on Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield College.
The choir, directed by Anna Song, interim director of choirs, will present music performed during an annual spring break tour. This year the choir will travel to San Francisco, Calif., stopping in Roseburg and Brookings along the way. The concert will feature various musical styles and include works by Bach, Bruckner, Britten, Villette, Palestrina, Durufle and Stanford.
The Linfield Concert Choir was organized in 1930 and is the oldest such group in the Pacific Northwest. Throughout its history, the choir has distinguished itself with concerts throughout the 10 western states and Canada. It has also performed extensively throughout the world in locations including Austria, Germany, Britain, New Zealand, Australia, China and Southeast Asia.
Song, who earned a bachelor’s in composition from UCLA and a master’s in conducting from the School of Music and the Institution of Sacred Music at Yale University, has been directing choirs and teaching music in the Portland area since 2001. Previous positions include associate director of choral activities at DePaul University and assistant conductor of the Portland Symphonic Choir. In addition to her work at Linfield, she serves as music teacher at Holy Redeemer School in Portland and director of the St. Rose Children’s Choir in Portland. Song is also the artistic director of In Mulieribus, a professional women’s ensemble.
