11/20/2008 Holiday concert to honor long-time professor
McMINNVILLE – Linfield College choral ensembles will perform a Christmas concert on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Richard and Lucille Ice Auditorium in Melrose Hall at Linfield. This concert is a tribute to Larry Marsh, retired Linfield music professor, who served as concert choir director since coming to Linfield in 1981.
The concert will feature a variety of traditional carols and songs of the holiday season including works by Britten, Bruckner, Sametz and Orban.
Featured groups include the Linfield Concert Choir directed by Anna Song, interim director of choirs; the Linfield Masterworks Chorale directed by Russ Otte, adjunct professor of music; the Linfield Women’s Vocal Ensemble directed by Debbie Huddleston, adjunct professor of music; and the Linfield Brass Quintet coached by Joan Paddock, professor of music.
Song, who earned a bachelor’s in composition from UCLA and a master’s in conducting from the School of Music and the Institution of Sacred Music at Yale University, has been directing choirs and teaching music in the Portland area since 2001. Previous positions include associate director of choral activities at DePaul University and assistant conductor of the Portland Symphonic Choir. In addition to her work at Linfield, she serves as music teacher at Holy Redeemer School in Portland and director of the St. Rose Children’s Choir in Portland. Song is also the artistic director of In Mulieribus, a professional women’s ensemble.
