McMINNVILLE – Seattle author John Brandon will present a reading Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Austin Reading Room in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield College. Brandon will be reading from his first novel, "Arkansas." "Arkansas" is a comic and tragic novel about mid-level drug runners who form an unstable drug ring in an Arkansas state park. The novel is published by the hip, prestigious McSweeney's Press, founded by popular writer Dave Eggars. Brandon grew up on the Gulf Coast of Florida and graduated with a master of fine arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis. While writing "Arkansas," Brandon worked in a lumber mill, a windshield warehouse, a Coca-Cola distributor and other small factories. Some of Brandon's shorter writings have appeared in Words & Images, the Mississippi Review and McSweeney's Quarterly Concern. The reading, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Linfield English Department and Friends of Nicholson Library. For more information, call Susan Barnes Whyte at 503-883-2517.
