Guest artist Jill Timmons, professor of music and McDaniel’s former teacher, will join McDaniel in a number of four-hand works for one piano.
McDaniel’s solo performance will include piano transcriptions by Franz Liszt, songs by Franz Schubert and an arrangement of themes from Johann Strauss Jr.'s operetta "Die Fledermaus" by Ernst von Dohnányi. Timmons and McDaniel will perform a sonata by W.A. Mozart, marches by Franz Schubert, Slavonic dances by Antonin Dvorák and Hungarian dances by Johannes Brahms.
“I'm very excited to be performing in Ice Auditorium again,” said McDaniel. “It's a wonderful performance space that holds many fond memories for me from my time at Linfield.”
McDaniel, a 1997 graduate of Linfield, majored in music with a performance concentration and minored in German. She earned a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. She has played with the San Diego Opera, Seattle Opera and the Eugene Opera. She has been a member of the music staff for the Seattle Opera and recently toured the United States with the Berlin Radio Choir. McDaniel has been a soloist and a chamber musician in recitals in Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
“The music on this program is what Susan calls ‘guilty pleasures,’” said Timmons, who taught McDaniel in high school and college. “It's music that pianists love to play and audiences love to hear. I am proud to be a part of this alumni concert and very proud of her work.”
The recital is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Linfield Music Department at 503-883-2275.
