FAQs about Commencement Weekend

Are tickets required?
Tickets are required for Portland Closing Convocation, and are distributed in advance.  No tickets are necessary for Baccalaureate Service in McMinnville.  In case of a major rain storm on commencement Sunday, the ceremony will be held inside and tickets will be required, no exceptions.  Each graduating senior will receive four tickets in advance to use in case of a major storm.  (NOTE: Commencement has been held indoors once in the past 20 years.  Those attending Commencement should wear appropriate clothing.) What about caps and gowns?  
Students may order caps and gowns as well as graduation announcements through the Linfield College Bookstore

Where will parking be available?
Plenty of parking is available in the Keck Campus lots near Ford Theater and Bull Music Center.  Shuttle service will be available from there to the Commencement Green.

Where is the Commencement Green?
The Commencement Green is located in the Oak Grove between the fronts of Pioneer and Melrose Halls (buildings 14 and 1 on the campus map pdf).

Where is the Ted Wilson Gymnasium?
The Ted Wilson Gymnasium is located in the Health, Human Performance and Athletics Building (building 48 on the campus map pdf)

What about arrangements for those with handicaps?
 Handicap parking will be set aside near the main entrance to campus on Founder’s Way and Blaine Street (campus map), as well as a drop-off area for those who want to discharge passengers and park in the South Campus lots.  Accessible seating is available between the bleachers and the stage for those who require it plus one family member or attendant.  Those who wish to use the handicap parking lot and/or handicap seating area should let the President’s Office know in advance (503-883-2408 or jsmith1@linfield.edu)

How long does Commencement last?
Typically, Commencement lasts between two and two  and a half hours.  A reception for graduates, guests, faculty, and staff will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Oak Grove.

When do the Residence Halls close?  
Continuing students need to check out of their campus housing within 24 hours of their last final exam.  Graduating seniors must check out of campus housing by 12:00 noon on Monday, June 2nd 2008.
