LIVING HERE - "My experience has been really good. I enjoyed living on campus. It's not a typical residence hall like at a big university. It's real close. I liked that I didn't have to drive to school. I just walked downstairs and went to class."

THE FACULTY - "We have a really strong faculty here, so all of the courses are intensive. Most of the faculty will bend over backwards to help you excel. Dr. Keyes has been the most influential professor for me. He's noted as one of the harder teachers. He really pushes his students but he really cares about us. He is a student advocate. I like him."

CHOOSING LINFIELD - "My sister went to Linfield College in McMinnville. I looked at University of Portland, University of Oregon, Willamette University, Lewis & Clark College and Oregon State. This campus made the most sense for me. I liked the Health Sciences program."

SMALL SIZE - "The small size of Linfield is really a plus for me. It allows me to really concentrate on my studies because I want to go to graduate school. I want to eventually get my masters degree in public health. Basically, I'd like to be a program educator.I would help companies make good decisions about environmental health."

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE - "My academic experience has been wonderful. I think the classes offered here are one-of-a-kind. I'm very pleased. I admire a lot of the professors here because they have so much dedication to their students. I love it and wouldn't trade it for the world. I appreciate the closeness with my professors. I've definitely learned more because of it. I think I'll be better prepared for graduate school because of it."

THE NEIGHBORHOOD - "I like living in Northwest Portland because there are so many good places around here. People are cheerful in this neighborhood. Great shopping on northwest twenty-third. Concert-wise, there's the Roseland, the Crystal Ballroom, the Schnitz, Kellar Auditorium and the Green Room just down the street. There's tons of stuff to do around here. Portland is a cultural center and I like the urban environment."

SMALL SIZE - "The small size is one of the reasons I like it so much here. I didn't realize that when I first got here. Now that I've gone through classes with smaller numbers of students I find that I learn a lot more. My biology class has four people. My physics class has ten people. The same thing goes for labs. That is invaluable... it's priceless.

SCOTT'S ACADEMIC PLAN - "I'm doing a medical-biology concentration through the Health Science department. In a sense, I'm doing a pre-med track through the Health Sciences. My goal is to apply to dental or medical school when I graduate from Linfield. Overall, it's been pretty good.

HELP ON THE WAY - "A lot of my professors have been helpful. Their office hours are good. They give out their phone numbers. To me, that shows me that my professors want me to succeed." Dr. Keyes has kept me motivated. Dr. Canepa was wondeful. She's a very caring person. Dr. Broshot is a phenominal teacher. You get done with her class, you feel like you have learned so much. Ken Westhusing has been very helpful to me. He's the Learning Center guy. If you need a tutor, or a paper that needs to be revised, or note-taking skills or problems in a difficult class, you can go to Ken and he'll help you out. Ken has gone out of his way to help me to become a better writer."

BIG CITY, SMALL TOWN - "I lived on campus for a year and a half. I love the Northwest Portland neighborhood. It's just so much fun to walk up and down the streets and watch people and window shop. There are so many good restaurants and coffee shops. I liked living in the city, but Northwest Portland is like a small town inside of a bigger city."

THEY KNOW MY NAME - "I love going to a small school. I don't know if I even could go to a bigger school now. I feel like I'd be eaten alive. All of the professors here give good one-on-one attention. They know your name. They smile at you when they see you. They'll work with you and help you out more here."

FINDING LINFIELD - "I went to high school in California. I found out about Linfield by going to a career fair and filling out a card to receive more information. I applied to a lot of schools around the country and was accepted into most of them. I had an opportunity to visit the Northwest and make a grand tour to all of the schools. When I visited Linfield, there was a warm welcome. They took me right into the biology lab. The professor spoke with me and he was very motivating. I could tell that the atmosphere was academic, more focused."

CORONARY CARE- "I work in a progressive coronary care unit at Good Samaritan Hospital here in Portland. We deal with a lot of telemetry patients, which are patients on heart monitors. We work with first-day open heart surgury patients. We deal with a lot of procedure patients too. It's very exciting. I've learned a lot, and I want to continue to progress. One thing I've learned is that I like what I do and I like interacting with people. You can tell it really matters what you do for people in a hospital."

GOOD SUPPORT- "The fact that I really got to know all of my professors, personally as well as academically, was great. It was a family. I received a lot of support throughout my time at Linfield. Dr. Vivian Tong was very supportive. She became a role model for me. She was like a mother at times, she was my teacher at times, she was my friend. She even got to know my family. Dr. Keyes was tough. He throws a lot at you. But he was always there to help me walk through it. He had high expectations for us, and I'm glad he did becaused that pushed me forward. From where I stand today, his approach really did help me."
A GOOD EXPERIENCE- "My experience has been so good here. Both academically and personally, I have grown and developed."

RECOMMENDED - "When it came time to get recommendations for graduate school, I could literally go to ten different people who knew me well enough to write my recommendation. I can go to my professors for anything. They are like parents to me in some ways."

ACADEMIC HIGHLIGHTS- "My sophomore year biology class with Dr. Broshot really pushed me to become a good student. It's not just a science course. It helped me grow as a writer and a speaker as well. All of Dr. Baker's classes have been enlightening to me; Health Care In America. International Health. Research Methods. I also enjoyed my business classes like Marketing and Management Process with Professor Daboul. Race In America with Dr. Groff was also a great learning experience."
