A Message from the ASLC-PC President

Africa DayHello campus community. My name is Jake Creviston. I am the President of ASLC-PC (Associated Students of Linfield College – Portland Campus) for the 2007-2008 school year. When I started at Linfield in the Fall of 2005 I remember a group of students saying that there should be means of communicating their concerns to someone and to feel like a resolution could come into fruition from that communication. Well, last year a bright and dedicated group of students became committed to giving students that means. They formed a committee consisting of several students and several faculty. The committee, as a whole, named the initiative “STRIVE.” It stands for Student Teacher Relationships Influencing Valuable Experiences. As student-body president and co-chair of STRIVE it is my aspiration to continue nurturing the committee and strengthening the interrelationship of students, faculty and the campus as a community.

This year STRIVE aims to establish multiple modalities of hearing your comments, concerns, compliments, or what-have-yous. One of the ways we are doing this is by creating and maintaining the web link labeled “Student Voice.”  The Student Voice stands as an electronic means of anonymously and directly communicating anything of concern with me, Jake Creviston, ASLC-PC President. I feel it is my duty to ensure you that your words will be received with the utmost objectivity and respect. I ensure you that I will take heed to any issue despite how small or complex. Another mode of communicating your views is by talking to one of your ASLC-PC representatives. They are committed to hearing your concerns, helping where they can, and routing the matter to me if it requires further involvement (if your concern is about me they will route it to someone other than myself for the sake of protecting your anonymity and avoiding a conflict of interest). Common and pressing concerns will be routed to the appropriate resolution field: STRIVE committee meeting, ASLC meeting, Campus Committees, etc. Rest assured that throughout the entire process you will remain anonymous unless you specify otherwise. After issues have been brought to the table for discussion we will document a summary of our minutes in the strive link labeled “Follow Up.”

This year’s STRIVE committee members are:

Co-Chairs

Jake Creviston (ASLC President)

Teri Joyer (Assistant Professor)

Board Members

Heather Fruhling (ASLC Nursing Senator)

Dr. Mary Harris (Assistant Professor)

Amanda Jorgenson (ASLC Health Sciences Senator)

Sue Kim (Program Board Member)

Kathy Kinderman (Assistant Professor)

Graham Seaton (ASLC Senator)

Dr. Peggy Wros (Associate Dean of Nursing)

Laura Yee (ASLC Treasurer)

Together, ASLC and Linfield faculty, are ‘STRIVE’ing to emphasize “whole health for the whole community” and with your help we will be successful.
