Activities/Clubs

Africa DayLinfield offers several opportunities for student activities and clubs. A few are listed here.

Blue Dot Society

The Blue Dot Society’s mission statement cites three specific ways of promoting interest in health sciences: Through academic activities, community service, and friendship. This year we have placed greatest emphasis on community involvement through volunteerism. The society’s goal is to reach out to our surrounding community while providing our members an opportunity to gain experience in environmental, social, and healthcare issues. Friendships are cultivated during our biweekly meetings, while guest speakers help further club members’ understanding of a wide variety of academic issues.

Activities include:
• Monthly Red Cross blood drives
• Set-up of Friendly House pre-school
• Meridian Park Hospital Kid’s Health Fair
• SOLV watershed restoration
• Fundraisers for needy families
• Adopt-a-family for the holiday season.
• Guest speakers

CDAC

CDAC stands for Cultural Diversity and Awareness Club.
This club began in 1996 as the International Students Association (ISA) " when a group of students recognized that cultural diversity was not actively promoted on this campus." Since then, the group has had educational as well as fun activities for the students and community activities such as clothes drives. The main event for the year has traditionally been Culture Day where a specific culture is celebrated with food, dance, music, and education. CDAC's name has been changed several years ago to recognize culture that exists not only in other countries but our own as well. One of my goals for the semester is to help students realize that culture is not only in an obviously Asian-American or African-American but also in students that have European ancestry or who lived in the Southern states of the US. Therefore if you tell people you are simply American or Caucasian, please take a little more time to answer that question. If people ask "what traditions do you practice?" and you don't consider preparing jambalaya and alligator pate counts, please think again. =)
So please join us whether you consider yourself culturally diverse or not because we'll figure out where your diversity lies. If you have ideas for activities, events or just want to come to share or talk we welcome you. CDAC holds meetings twice a month

Holistic Health Interest Group

The Holistic Health Interest Group is dedicated to learning about and spreading knowledge related to holistic health care and medicine. Given the widespread use of these health practices among the general public, we can expect to encounter them as healthcare professionals. It is important to have an understanding and appreciation of these practices so as to better serve our clients. We have had guest speakers on a variety of topics related to holistic health, such as acupuncture, guided imagery, chiropractics, energy healing, massage and more. Our group enjoys participating in community service activities. We also have a bulletin board by the bookstore where we post information on topics of interest, upcoming events, fundraisers and volunteer opportunities. New members are always welcome!

Thanks,

REUSER

REUSER stands for “Readily Enabled United Students for Environmental Restoration.” Any student is invited to attend club meetings, presentations, and projects.

REUSER will concentrate efforts towards improving the environment of Linfield College and of the environments inhabited by the members and affiliates thereof. The group will act in accordance with the following mission statement.

Readily Enabled United Students for Environmental Restoration, REUSER, strives to empower individuals to take ownership of the health of the environment. Each member is encouraged to autonomously research, implement, evaluate and teach methods of conscientiously improving the quality of our environment as a whole.

The club’s faculty advisor is Professor Nancy Broshot. Participants and members of the club share all responsibilities. Specific initiatives will be brought to meetings and volunteers interested in leading the initiative will be solicited for. Times and dates for meetings will be decided on a case by case basis. Thanks for your interest in restoring the environment.

Student Nurses Association

NEXT MEETING:  TBA

The Linfield Student Nurses Association (LSNA) is a local school chapter of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA), a pre-professional association for nursing students.  Involvement in the NSNA prepares students for involvement in professional associations upon graduation and is a great addition to your resume!  The mission of the LSNA is the “Advancement of Student Nursing”.  We meet regularly throughout the year to take part in community service projects, aid fellow students with curriculum issues, and provide support throughout the student process.  There are additional benefits to being a member of LSNA and NSNA, which include meeting new people, developing leadership skills, and a scholarship program.

The first Linfield Student Nursing Association meeting for fall 2007 will be Thursday September 6, 2007 in the upstairs Peterson Hall conference room.  All are welcome!  Our current officers are Jaimie Warren  (President) and Meredith Hess (Vice-President).  If you are interested in becoming a member or even a leader of LSNA, please contact us via e-mail (jwarren@linfield.edu or mhess@linfield.edu) or come to the next LSNA meeting, held the first Thursday of every month at noon.  Please check this link frequently for meeting locations or other changes in the schedule.
