Cafeteria and Food Service

LoveJoy Station, Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital Cafeteria, is located on the first floor of the hospital and provides food services seven days a week for students, employees, and the public.  Pre-paid meal cards may be purchased from a cafeteria cashier or from the Director of Housing.  Multiple times during the year the Hospital provides discounts on pre-paid cards that many students take advantage of.  

In addition to cafeteria service, you will find students eating at the numerous cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants found in NW Portland.  Many local eateries offer discounts with a valid Student ID card.    

The campus commuter lounge in Loveridge Hall has a refrigerator, microwave, food and beverage vending machines, and free utensils for student use.  



Campus Security

Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital partners with Linfield College – Portland Campus in providing security services to students, faculty, and staff.  Officers are available 24 hours a day for campus emergencies, providing escorts to the satellite parking lot, and jump-starting your car battery if needed.

Emergency Alert Notification—FlashAlert.net

The FlashAlert.net website gives you access to emergency messages, such as breaking news or inclement weather closure information.  Signing up to receive these alerts via email is free.  Just follow the directions listed below.

   1. Go to www.flashalert.net
   2. Click on “Subscribe to receive news from participating organizations” in the left hand menu bar
   3. Enter email address in the field provided, and then click “Create your account.”
   4. In the “Add an organization” field, choose “Portland/Vanc/Salem.”
   5. In the next field, select “Private Colleges and Universities”
   6. Select organization “Linfield College- McMinnville.”
   7. Click “Subscribe”
   8. Additional email addresses can be entered at this point, including signing up to receive text message alerts on your cell phone.  Charges from your cell provider may apply.  Follow the instructions on the page to enter your cell number.
   9. Click the button that reads, “Click to send test messages.”  Then click “log out” at upper left.  Check to make sure that messages were received correctly.

The Office of Student Services provides a Fall and Spring Nursing Career Fair for all current students.  In the past, we have had nurse recruiters in attendance from the following agencies:

The Student Services Office provides many other free career resources such as a Linfield Nursing Resume booklet and copies of published guides such as Resume For Nursing Careers and Real Resumes for Nursing Jobs.  The office also provides resources and Internship information for Health Science students.



Fitness Center

Current students are eligible for FREE membership at Good Samaritan Fitness Center.  Students wanting to join the center must fill out an membership form (available from Student Services) and return it to Good Samaritan Fitness Center located one block from camps, on Overton between NW 21st and NW 22nd.   The Fitness Center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Several classes are offered at no charge including biking, yoga, pilates, total body conditioning, muscle toning, interval step, and cardio-boxing.  Student members may also use the gym and swimming pool at the Emanuel Hospital Fitness Center.  



Parking/Transportation

All Linfield College – Portland Campus students have free parking provided at the Legacy Good Samaritan satellite parking lot at the corner of NW 20th and Raleigh.  The parking lot is a short walk to campus or students may chose to ride the free shuttle that runs every 10 minutes with drop-off one block from campus at the corner of NW 22nd and Marshall.  Students are not allowed to park in the Loveridge Parking Lot or in any of the parking garages at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital.  Please see the Director of Student Services if a new or replacement parking sticker is needed.  

The Portland Campus is easy to get to by utilizing public transportation. There is a stop for the Portland Streetcar and Bus #77 at the corner of campus and a stop for Bus #15 one block from campus.  Discount TriMet ticket books and monthly passes are available from the Director of Student Services.  

For our bicycle commuters, there are numerous locations on campus for you to safely park and lock your bicycle.  



Student Counseling Services

Psychological counseling is available to students of Linfield College – Portland Campus through a contract with Psychological Service Center.  We offer 8 free and confidential sessions either on-campus in Peterson Hall 319 or off-campus at the Psychological Service Center downtown clinic at SW 10th and Alder.  Brochures regarding this service can be found by the student dockets or from the Director of Student Services.

To make an appointment for on-campus counseling, please call 503-413-7873 or email pdxcounseling@linfield.edu.  For off-campus counseling appointments, please call 503-352-2400.  

Current students may use this free service for individual, group, and family counseling.  Most students take advantage of this service for issues surrounding anxiety/worry, handling life transitions, anger, depression, trauma/loss/grief, relationship problems, self-esteem problems, and parent-child problems.  



Student Health Services

The Ambulatory Care Unit at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital offers basic health care services at no charge for Linfield students.  Information on what is covered for free can be found here.  To make use of this service, please take your Student ID Card to Ambulatory Care Unit during it’s regular hours: 10am-8pm all days of the week.  Monday and Tuesday are especially bus, please refrain from visiting for routine immunizations on these days.  If you go at other times you will be referred to the Emergency Room and you or your health insurance company will be charged.  

All students attending Linfield College – Portland Campus are required to have health insurance coverage.  Students must either purchase a student health insurance policy through the College or sign a waiver indicating that the student, spouse, or parent provides a health insurance policy.

The Legacy Good Samaritan Pharmacy located in the first floor of the Comprehensive Cancer Center on the corner of NW 22nd and Northrup offers a 10% discount with valid Student ID Card for over-the-counter items and prescription medications.
