Administration careers

Overview

The Linfield major in Health Administration prepares you for 21st Century challenges for health care in your community, state, the US, and globally. Students in the Health Sciences: Administration major study the complexity of health, health care, and health care delivery in the United States and throughout the world through formal classes, field work, and practical internships. We want you to participate in the coming transformation of health care. In this major you will learn how to plan, organize, deliver, finance, and integrate the best prevention, public health, community health, patient focused information, and outcomes for community and patient health.

Challenging Careers

Professionals in this challenging and changing field need knowledge and skills in areas such as process improvement, financial and administrative analysis, and quality improvement. Professionals in administration also need to know the fundamentals of health science, health organization, finance, and delivery so that they can:

  • Credibly work with doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals to analyze health care issues
  • Propose real alternatives to resolve problems
  • Improve delivery of care and services from the perspective of patients and communities
  • Plan, organize, measure, lead, and deliver services while supervising people and managing financial resources effectively and efficiently
  • Make decisions regarding the use of technological innovations
  • Ensure regulatory compliance
  • Develop a positive workplace culture
  • Shape the future structure and financing of health care by emphasizing preventive care

The Linfield Program

To effectively manage the business of healthcare, professionals must have a good understanding of foundational principles of business, humanities, social, behavioral, and the natural sciences. They also need skills to interact and communicate with a variety of people; they must be able to find information using computers and concepts of informatics, process improvement and systems thinking skills.

Linfield College expects its graduates to become leaders in their profession. This major prepares graduates to understand human perceptions of health from a cultural, biological, environmental, and organizational perspective that prepares graduates for leadership roles in health care administration.

The Administration major in Health Sciences prepares students for many careers and offers graduates a broad variety of transferable skills and knowledge sought by health care organizations, graduate schools, and professional schools.
