PHI 236 History of Ethical Theory

Major theories of ethics in western philosophy.

PHI 300 Modern Theories of Ethics

Focus on developments in ethical theory in recent times.

PHI 450 Applied Theories of Ethics

Ethical theories which attempt a theoretical framework for health care ethics, such as: principlism, casuistry, care, etc.

PHI/NUR 451 Problems of Health Care Ethics

Problems arising in health care and their impact on different professions. Subjects include: informed consent, euthanasia, managed care, provider-patient relationship, etc.

PHI/NUR 460 Clinical Ethics

Moral concerns in everyday practice such as suffering, bias and ethical comportment. Use of methods of ethical problem solving developed for clinical settings.

PHI/NUR 461 Clinical Internship

Study in a health care ethics setting chosen by the student and course instructor.

PHI/NUR 495 Case Analysis

Capstone course involving analyzing a case study selected by the student from their clinical experience, in consultation with their advisor. Applying theory and methodology studied in prior courses.

Elective

At least one ethics elective will be offered each year. This must be chosen in consultation with an advisor. This will usually be labelled PHI 320, Topics in Philosophy
