Computer Support

C&EMS purchases, installs, configures, and provides on-going assistance with microcomputer hardware and software for staff and faculty on the Portland campus. The department also maintains and supports the computer lab in Loveridge Hall and the computer classroom in Peterson Hall.

Software

C&EMS supports several software packages to varying degree. Our primary productivity software in the labs and in staff and faculty offices includes Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Browsers supported include Firefox and Internet Explorer on Windows and Macintosh. In addition, C&EMS also provides general support for other applications such as: Acrobat, ParScore, Clio, Ariel, Kodak Photo ID, Photoshop, HESI/Evolve exams.

In the Loveridge Hall Lab, in addition to the standard software, we provide a number of software packages that are specific for various courses on the Portland campus. These packages include both computer-assisted-instruction and examination software. C&EMS support for these extends to maintaining the software and providing basic trouble-shooting for printing or other system-related problems.

Linfield E-mail accounts

Currently-enrolled students and currently-employed faculty and staff of Linfield College are eligible for "e-mail accounts" (known as CATNET accounts). A CATNET account will remain valid during the time the student or employee is associated with college. The CATNET account provides access to most services including e-mail, WebAdvisor, WebCT (in enrolled courses), and Library-licensed databases. Use of CATNET accounts is subject to the college's acceptable use policies. Students, faculty, and staff may establish a Linfield e-mail account through the Linfield Account Request Form.

Changing your password

If you want to change the current password for your CATNET account, go to the ITS page. Select "Change Your Email Password" under "E-Mail Support".

Operating Systems

We support desktop users on college-owned machines on both the Macintosh (OS X) and Windows (2000 and XP) operating systems. Local servers supported are NT4 through Windows 2003.

Hardware

In the past the desktop hardware installation on the Portland campus represented a hodge-podge of grant-based and scrimped-budget-funds based purchases over prior years. Beginning with the 1998-1999 fiscal year, the Portland campus instituted a budgeted, four-year upgrade cycle for faculty and staff computers. Although lean, the budget provides us with sufficient funds to provide staff and faculty members with responsive computing resources to support their work.
