Computing and Educational Media Services provides computer and audio-visual equipment support for the Portland campus of Linfield College.

Computer Support


CEMS installs, configures, and provides on-going assistance with microcomputer hardware and software for staff and faculty on the Portland campus. Support for students and staff for creating and using Linfield CatNET (e-mail, etc.) accounts. (Student sign up for new account)

Hours and schedules for the computer lab, computer classroom, and video conferencing system.

Workshops

Workshops offered during the current term. Workshops are short, 30-45 minutes, and typically focus on one task in an application or provide an overview of a resource or of a more general task. Topics include: archiving e-mail using Outlook and Entourage; navigating Office 2007 using pivot tables in Excel; how to use CatFiles; overview of using storage options such as USB, DVD, CatFiles, etc.. Some workshops are offered more than once during a term.

Student Lab and Classroom computer support

CEMS supports and maintains microcomputer hardware and software in the Loveridge Hall lab, the computer classroom in Peterson Hall and the Library's catalog stations. CEMS maintains local servers for lab management, for backups and for the campus' Elsevier (formerly HESI)-based exams.

Network-related support

The hosts for Linfield College e-mail, library services and Web services including Blackboard, as well as the college's gateway to the Internet are located at the McMinnville campus. CEMS provides some user assistance with these Linfield services. The department manages wireless networking for the Portland campus and works with McMinnville network and server management personnel for trouble-shooting and maintenance at Portland.

Audio-Visual Equipment

CEMS provides for central scheduling and delivery of audio-visual equipment for the campus, support for "Smart" classrooms and support for the video-conferencing system.
