Linfield celebrates 25 years in Portland

On a beautiful spring evening on May 1, Linfield hosted a garden party reception to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its Portland Campus. Over 85 guests from near and far representing alumni, trustees, students, faculty and staff from both Linfield campuses and from Good Samaritan School of Nursing enjoyed the authentic Chinese dim sum at the beautiful Portland Classical Chinese Garden in Old Town/Chinatown.
President Tom Hellie welcomed guests and spoke of the realized potential of Linfield's presence in Portland, as well as the excitement the future holds. David Groff, director of Portland Campus, shared a snapshot history of the past 25 years of the campus, reflecting on the transition and growth of the School of Nursing, the history of liberal arts, and introduction of the health science major.
Dean Bonnie Saucier introduced the 2009 Lloydena Grimes award recipient for excellence in nursing. Marcella Gowan, GSH '77, accepted the award on behalf of international nursing and nursing education and appreciated the support of her family and Good Sam nursing school friends. Marcella currently serves as a maternity nursing professor at the new program at George Fox University and actively participates in nursing in Africa.
Tom Hellie closed the program with a surprise presentation to David Groff of a beautiful marble clock on the occasion of his upcoming retirement in June.
