The sciences are the foundation for health care in the western world, and the Portland Campus Science faculty are committed to excellence in undergraduate science education. Science courses provide students with a foundation of principles from which to develop an understanding of the human body and the natural world. Training in analytical thinking and the scientific method offers excellent preparation for a variety of careers in the health care arena. Laboratory exercises provide hands-on experiences and reinforcement of scientific principles introduced in classroom lectures and discussions.

Students majoring in Health Sciences or Nursing are encouraged to choose from a variety of upper division science courses to complement their studies. Those majoring in Health Sciences may choose a minor in Biology. Outstanding students may have the opportunity to work with individual faculty on independent studies or senior honors thesis projects. The science program at the Portland Campus can be tailored to meet specific goals such as preparing students to enter the job market or continue their studies in graduate programs in either the natural or health sciences.
