About Linfield
Linfield's Portland Location
"Living in NW
Portland is great. The
people in the
neighborhood are
friendly and there are
tons of things to do. I
can get my buddies
together and go to the
park to play
basketball. There are
lots of fun shops and
excellent restaurants.
I also like to go and
listen to music and
Portland offers some
of the best."

Our Nob Hill/Northwest Neighborhood
Nestled into the base of Portland's west hills, Nob Hill/Northwest is one of
Portland's great neighborhoods. Sharing more than a passing similarity to its
San Francisco namesake, "Northwest," as we call it, has undergone a
renaissance. Turn-of-the-century Victorians line the narrow streets, offering
visitors a glimpse into the city's rich architectural past. Storefronts have
been restored to their original splendor, transforming Northwest
23rd Avenue into a shopper's heaven. Scores of whimsical, independent and
sophisticated boutiques offer everything from tiaras to topiaries. Restaurants,
pubs and cafes, many of which open to the street in warmer months, offer perfect
vantage points for some of the city's best people-watching. Rounding out the
atmosphere of Northwest are the many trees lining the streets - an unusual site
in most urban landscapes, but par for the course in Portland. It is all within
walking distance from campus. And if you want to venture out a bit, the new Portland
Streetcar links our neighborhood
to downtown Portland's Cultural District and the Pearl District.

Right next door to Nob Hill is Portland's best known art district, the Pearl
District. For the past 20 years, local artists have resided in this unlikely
neighborhood. Creative energy resonates from this eclectic district, where many
of the old warehouses are rapidly transitioning to loft-style condominiums and
row houses. And while the district has retained its industrial flavor, many loading
dock doors roll up each morning to reveal elegant cafes, exotic boutiques, and
fine art galleries. Original cobblestone pavers, imported at the turn of the
century aboard sailing vessels, which used the stones as ballast, still line
many Pearl District streets.

Powell's City of Books is one of the oldest
Pearl District entities. Recognized as the largest independent bookstore in the
world, Powell's spans a full city block and rises three stories to house its
selection of 1 million new, used and out-of-print titles. The Pearl also hosts
events such as First Thursday, a monthly gallery walk, and Art in the Pearl,
an annual arts and crafts festival held over Labor Day weekend.
