A Passion For Teaching

Linfield College faculty have a passion for teaching and they want to invest their time and energy in your academic pursuit. Expectations are high, but because you know your professors care, you will be inspired to challenge yourself to do your very best.

Caring About Their Students

It is the quality of our faculty and the relationship between faculty and students that makes a Linfield education so valuable. Students consistently describe a positive learning environment and they attribute this to a knowledgeable, accessible, and caring faculty.

On a recent Senior Survey, graduates identified "faculty knowledge and commitment to student learning... a talented faculty... instructors who are incredibly enthusiastic about the material and very supportive of students" as just some of the strengths of the Portland Campus.

Working Side-By-Side

Faculty will be working closely with you from the day you enter Linfield until graduation. All faculty members serve as academic advisors. Your professors will be instrumental in writing letters of recommendation, whether you are preparing to enter the job market or go on to graduate school. Our students are entering some of the finest graduate programs in the country and that is a direct reflection of teaching excellence and the level of commitment from our faculty.

ACADEMIC CHARACTER

"As teachers, our responsibility is to teach a demanding curriculum so that it challenges our students intellectually to learn knowledge, develop new ideas, and think critically as well as analytically. We want them to aspire to become perpetual learners so they are better prepared to achieve their immediate and future goals."

Jack Keyes, Ph.D.
Professor of Biology

One of The Best

Chartered by the Territory of Oregon in 1858, Linfield has been long recognized as a leader in private higher education. In recent years its quality and reputation have been noted by US News and World Report, which has listed it among "America's Best Colleges" for many years.

A Dynamic Partnership

In 1982, Linfield College joined together with the Good Samaritan Hospital and Medical Center to establish the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing. Highly regarded for its 120-year tradition of excellence in nursing education and health care delivery, the hospital and medical center, now part of the Legacy Health System, plays an important role in the educational program at Linfield and is well known for its progressive research and outpatient leadership. The Health sciences major was added in 1991.

An Accredited Institution
