Early Arrival for Fall Student Athletes

Residence hall check-in and move-in for early arrivals for fall sports.  Review your squad letter from your coach for more details. Football, men's soccer, volleyball, men's cross country, women's cross country, and women’s soccer all arrive on Thursday.  The cheer squad will arrive on Monday, August 25.

3:30 p.m. (Thursday only) Parent Session for Early Arrivals Linfield President Dr. Thomas L. Hellie and Dean of Students Dave Hansen will welcome parents of the early arrivals.

Friday, August 29

1 p.m.-5 p.m. Riley Campus Center, Fred Meyer Lounge

1 p.m.-5 p.m.Residence Hall Move-in Stop to check in and get your student ID first, then move into your residence hall. Volunteers from the Linfield College fraternities and sororities will help move your belongings to your room!

6 p.m. Jonasson Hall, lower floor of Melrose Hall A special Orientation session for students and parents from multicultural backgrounds.

9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Riley Campus Center, Room 201 International Students A special Orientation session for students from abroad.

8 a.m.-5 p.m. Riley Campus Center, first floor – The bookstore is open.

9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. KYOAI International Exchange Group Orientation and luncheon – Jonasson Hall

10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. LUNCH – Dillin Hall

12:20 p.m. Taiko Drummers – Wilson Gym Special performance by Linfield Taiko, a group of Linfield students and faculty.

12:30 p.m.-1:15 p.m. Welcome to Linfield College Physical Education Building, Wilson Gym Linfield President Dr. Thomas L. Hellie, Alumni Association Representative Michael Martinis '74 and student government president Christopher Schuldt will welcome you to Linfield.

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. First meeting of Colloquium. You and your parents will meet with your faculty advisor and peer advisor to learn about Colloquium.

1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. Transfer Gathering Riley Campus Center, Room 201 If you are a transfer to Linfield, you and your parents will have the opportunity to meet other transfers and receive important tips from the Academic Advising staff. Find out about opportunities and resources at Linfield as well as Fall Connections, a special program for transfers.

2:45 p.m. -3:45 p.m. Colloquium Meeting (Students) First year students will meet in your Colloquium rooms with your advisors, and Fall Connections students will meet with your advisors in Riley 201.

2:45 p.m.-3:45 p.m. Tips for Being a Great College Parent (Parents) Physical Education Building, Wilson Gym Dean of Students Dave Hansen will discuss Linfield’s approach to student development. This is a “don’t miss” session for family and friends of new Linfield students!

4 p.m.-5 p.m. “Start Off on the Right Foot” (Students) – Oak Grove Dean of Students Dave Hansen will share with you important information about the time ahead of you at Linfield. He will also discuss Linfield’s expectations for student behavior and personal growth. Bring a pen and paper to take notes.

4 p.m.-5 p.m. Q&A session and Solution Stations (Parents) Physical Education Building, Wilson Gym A variety of administrative offices from Integrated Technology Services to the Residence Life staff will be available in the gym to assist with any detailed questions parents may have about the move-in/check-in process, and then the full group of parents will come back together for a large group question and answer session.

5 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Goodbyes – Meet at your residence hall It’s time for a last get together with family and friends. Commuter students can meet at the fountain between Riley and Walker Halls. Now is a good time to say goodbye at least for a while.

5:30 p.m. President’s Reception for Parents and Visitors

5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Residence Life meeting (Students) Meet in Wilson Gym All new students living in any campus housing, residence halls and suburbs, will attend this meeting for an introduction to residence life at Linfield College.

6:45 p.m. Outdoor Dinner by Colloquium and Transfer Groups Academic Quad (All New Students) Come to the grassy area behind Melrose Hall for an outdoor dinner. You will separate by Colloquium groups, with a special group for transfers, so keep your eye out for your advisor. All students will have a chance to participate in some get-acquainted activities.

8 p.m. Your Residence Hall Your R.A.s have some activities to help you settle into your new home.

Sunday, August 31

7:30 a.m.-8:15 a.m. Optional Worship Service – Oak Grove You are invited to join the Chaplain’s Team for a time of worship.

8 a.m.-9 a.m. Breakfast for students on the meal plan – Dillin Hall (No organized activities, just a meal!)

9 a.m.-10 a.m. Colloquium meetings Meet in the regular location for your group. Your advisors will explain the placement exams, which to take and where to go.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Placement Tests and Proficiency Tests The tests will help you know what course level you’re at so you don’t get in over your head. The results can also let you know if you’ve met a course prerequisite. Taking the tests now is important because they are only offered during this Orientation.

Placement tests are given in chemistry, music and foreign languages. The math test is for those who have not yet met the college proficiency requirement (SAT math score of 520 or ACT math score of 22).

11 a.m. English Language and Culture Program Written and Oral Assessment – Melrose 210 An assessment of your written and oral proficiency in English will be conducted if English is not your native language.

Noon-2 p.m. Lunch – Dillin Hall You’ll see a lot of this building while you’re at Linfield. Go have lunch and introduce yourself to fellow Dillin diners.

4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Meet your peer advisor in your regular Colloquium room to learn the nuts and bolts of course scheduling and registration. Fall Connections meet in Walker 302.

5:30 p.m. Dinner – Dillin Hall

7:15 p.m. Meet in Colloquium rooms; Transfers in Riley Campus Center, Room 201

7:30 p.m. “Welcome to the Time of Your Life” – Wilson Gym Dr. Will Keim will challenge you to become actively involved in your education in and out of the classroom. Dr. Keim is a frequent visitor to Linfield, and has spoken to over two million students at 2,000 different campuses. Students report that his 10 Suggestions for Student Success help them get off to a good start and stay motivated. “I want to inspire students,” says Dr. Keim, “to start their campus careers with enthusiasm and armed with the tools for success. If they give me an hour of their time, I will save them hundreds of hours of frustration.”

9 p.m. Concert/Dessert – Oak Grove, sponsored by Greek organizations Join other new and continuing students for an outdoor concert and dessert. This event is sponsored by the fraternities and sororities of Linfield College and the Greek Life program.

Monday, September 1

7 a.m.-9 a.m. Breakfast – Dillin Hall

9 a.m.-10 a.m. Colloquium Meet in your regular room to learn important details from your faculty advisor and peer advisor about the Linfield curriculum, majors and degrees.

10 a.m.-11 a.m. Departmental Advising Information Sessions A number of departments will offer information sessions, open to all students.

10 a.m.-Noon Transfer Student Advising Transfer students may meet individually with their faculty advisors in their offices to finalize schedules. Help is also available in Academic Advising, Walker Hall, Room 104.

11 a.m.-3 p.m. Individual Advising in Colloquium Faculty Offices or another specified area This is the perfect time to finalize your schedule, get to know your advisor better, and ask more questions.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch – Dillin Hall

2 p.m.-5:10 p.m. Information Sessions Here’s your chance to find out about the range of activities available at Linfield. More details will be available upon arrival to campus.

5:10 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Dinner – You know where to go, right?

6:45 p.m. Meet in Colloquium Rooms; Fall Connections meet in Walker 302

7 p.m. “C.A.T.S.” – Consent Awareness Training Squad C.A.T.S. is a group of trained peer health educators who will lead discussions on reducing the risk of sexual assault including topics of communication, personal limits, alcohol and low risk enjoyment of social life on campus.

10:30 p.m. Movie in Ice Auditorium

Tuesday, September 2

7 a.m.-9 a.m. Breakfast – Dillin Hall

8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Riley Campus Bookstore is open Once you know the classes you’re taking, and have attended the first class session, it’s time to purchase your books and other materials.

9 a.m.-Noon Class Registration Physical Education Building, Upper Wilson Gym During this time you will register for fall classes and take care of other clerical tasks necessary for registration. Please note that you will need your Linfield email account activated and your student ID to register.

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch – Dillin

2:15 p.m. Meet in Colloquium Rooms

2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Opening Convocation and Transition to Linfield Ceremony

4 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Student Activities Fair – Oak Grove This is a chance to learn more about student activities and clubs that are available to you. You will have the opportunity to visit with Linfield’s clubs and organizations.

5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Welcome Back Picnic Commencement Green Join this traditional gathering of new and continuing students interacting with faculty, administrators, staff and their families.

9 p.m. Your Residence Hall This is the first regular hall meeting for all students.

Wednesday, September 3

Classes Begin

Don’t be surprised if your professors get you off to a fast and serious start.

Second Day of Classes

6:30 p.m. First regular meeting of Colloquium class During your first Thursday meeting of Colloquium you’ll have a chance to discuss your classes thus far – from dealing with syllabi and talking with professors to adding or dropping classes.
