Life at Linfield — the student perspective

The Second Month

So far, the second month of college is going really well.  I have gotten a lot busier because I am now swimming, so I have practice six days a week, and three mornings a week.  Getting up for morning practice has been a little hard with living in a residence hall.  I try to get to bed early, but a lot of times it is really loud.  Thankfully, however, my roommate is really understanding about my going to bed early and does not mind my alarm going off at 5:30 in the morning.  Other than swimming, I have been spending time riding my bike, which my parents brought here during family weekend, and hanging out with friends from swimming and from my hall.  Three evenings a week I have to go to mandatory swimming study halls for freshmen.  These are fun but quite unproductive, so they are a drag if I really need to get something done.  On the weekends I try and relax a lot, and I really enjoy the movies in the Ice Auditorium.  My friends and I also watch a lot of movies in our hall, although one of our remotes is currently missing.  We hope that it will resurface soon.  Missing remotes is not the only difficulty of residence hall living that I have encountered.  Some people do not feel compelled to clean up the messes they make in the kitchen.  But in general, everyone in my hall is very responsible and does a good job keeping our space nice.

I was concerned that living in a small town would be boring because I have always lived in Seattle.  Now, I realize that I am so busy here on campus that it really would not matter if Linfield was in a big city or a small town.  I have hardly been off campus, but that is okay by me.  This weekend I am going on the Greenfield retreat on the coast, so that should be a lot of fun.  I will also be traveling with the swim team starting at the end of the month.  I am very excited for our first meet in Tacoma.  I am excited to get to eat other food than Dillin food, which is far from the best in my opinion.  Sometimes, I am quite satisfied, but more often than I would like I resort to pizza and ice cream for dinner.  It is hard to eat healthy because Dillin does a better job with pizza and stuff like that than with meat and cooked vegetables.  I am very happy that I am swimming now so I can eat whatever I want!
