Life at Linfield — the student perspective

The End of the Year

April began with our choir tour homecoming concert, which my mom and dear friend came to visit for.  We filled the entire auditorium and it was amazing to share our music and stories from tour.  The month was filled with other fun events, such as intramural soccer with the swimmers and a hall event to Sky High, a trampoline place in Tigard!

Greenfield organized Earth Week on the third week of the month, to celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd.  We had many fun and educational events.  My friend planned an amazing community green building event called La Casa Verde as part of her internship, and a handful of friend volunteered in various capacities.  I got to make birdhouses with kids!  The next day was a hike that I organized to Drift Creek Falls, which is a hike near Lincoln City with the longest suspension bridge in Oregon.  It was breathtaking and a great way to get people outdoors and enjoying nature.  Other events included a concert, a potluck, and a garden work party!

This month I started working again at the job I got at the end of last year, at Kids on the Block after school program at Columbus Elementary.  I enjoy it very much and love working with the kids.  It is also nice to make a little money, and it keeps me busy when I’m not swimming.  I work about nine hours each week.

My parents came to visit the last weekend in April, for Mom’s weekend, and we enjoyed some of the first warm weather we’ve had yet this year!  We also enjoyed the Hawaiian club Luau.  The dancing was amazing and apparently the food was, too, although I missed out because I had a fieldtrip to Portland, for my Urban Societies and Culture class.

Also at the end of the month was housing registration.  Although I will be studying in Costa Rica in the fall (wahooo!), I went to registration with my friends who I will room with when I come back to campus.  One of them is going to Ireland in the spring, so I will fill her spot when she leaves.  We will be living in a quad apartment in the HP building D.  I am very excited and looking forward to cooking my own meals and not eating cafeteria food!

May has been quite stressful thus far.  I have many papers and presentations to do in these few short weeks, and then several finals.  The time is flying by and I wish it would slow down so I can get my work done and also have time to spend with friends, who I won’t be seeing for a while because of studying abroad.  We just had choir prom, an awesome dance party planned by a friend.  I am looking forward the swim banquet and to the choir singing at a memorial for a WWII veteran at the Aviation Museum soon.  We will also be singing at the Baccalaureate service for seniors after finals.  This has been a wonderful sophomore year, and I can’t believe it’s almost over!
