Keyboard Studies
Linfield College has a long tradition of excellence in the study and performance of music. The department contributes greatly to the college and community through its frequent presentation of faculty and student recitals as well as nationally recognized guest artists. As a keyboard performer you will find a stimulating environment with frequent opportunities to perform as soloist, accompanist and in chamber music ensembles. Situated only 50 minutes from the Portland metropolitan area, Linfield students can also take advantage of the many fine cultural events offered there.
Our Bachelor of Arts curriculum features an emphasis in performance with additional electives in piano pedagogy, keyboard accompanying, class piano and chamber music. Our keyboard graduates have been accepted to such fine schools as Yale University, Northwestern University, Smith College, and Manhattan School of Music.
The college has a superb Steinway concert grand, a Flemish harpsichord, an up-to-date electronic keyboard lab, a 48 rank Casavant pipe organ and a number of practice grands.
Linfield also has a number of music scholarships available to talented students. If you are interested in applying for a music performance scholarship, it is important to contact Dr. Jill Timmons to receive audition requirements and deadlines. Her office phone number is 503-883-2407 and email is jtimmons@linfield.edu.
Linfield College is an exciting and stimulating place to pursue music study. With the small student/teacher ratio, fine performing ensembles and a nationally recognized faculty, students can go on to excel in the world of music.
