The Department of Music Placement Exams

The Department of Music offers a music placement exam for all new students at the beginning of the fall semester. The exam measures music theory skills in melody (including all scale types), harmony, and rhythm through dictation and analysis exercises. The results of the exam are used to help advise and place students in the required music theory classes.
