Professor Richardson's graduate work included a year at the University of Marburg, where he studied German dialects and language history, and a year in Switzerland, where he wrote his dissertation. He taught at Yale for ten years before coming to Linfield in 1980. His ongoing scholarly work involves a museum archive high in the eastern Swiss Alps.
