PORTLAND, Ore. – Linfield and Lewis & Clark split a Northwest Conference dual meet Friday night at the Zehntbauer Swimming Pavilion on the L&C campus. The Linfield men pulled ahead of Lewis & Clark for a 109-90 victory, but the Pioneer women topped their Wildcat counterparts by a 116-89 margin.
Linfield’s 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Megan Sandall, Nikki Overton, Elizabeth Fry and Kelcie Kimura took top honors in 1:44.18. The Pioneers’ 200 freestyle relay, comprised of Sofia Koutzoukis, Taylor Coiner, Genevieve Emerson and Monica Castro, were close behind in 1:47.05. Overton squeaked out a narrow victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:30.88 over Lewis & Clark’s Lesley Pfeiffer, who finished in 18:31.56.
Kelcie Kimura prevented the Pioneers from sweeping the top three spots in the 100 freestyle by taking the top spot with a time of 55.85. Pioneers Hannah Frank and Sofia Koutzoukis finished in 56.18 and 56.21, respectively.
In the 200 freestyle, Pioneer Sofia Koutzoukis (2:02.36) pulled ahead of Wildcat Megan Sandall (2:03.22) for the win.
Linfield freshman Elizabeth Fry and fellow Wildcat Megan Sandall waged a tight battle in the 500 freestyle. The two ‘Cats took the top two spots with times of 5:29.20 and 5:30.06. Third place went to L&C’s Lesley Pfeiffer, who clocked 5:36.03.
Lewis & Clark’s Ali Brauer (1:10.69), Heather Markham (1:11.64), and Katy Yeh (1:11.81) swept the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke.
On the men’s side, Ian White, Sean Iwamasa, Ian Coker, and Lee Rivers edged Lewis & Clark’s 200 freestyle relay squad of Jacob Gigliotti, Josh Spegman, Hunter Cain and Evan Damon in just under 10 seconds, 1:34.58 to 1:44.28.
Linfield veteran Lee Rivers won the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.37, followed by L&C’s Luke Engstrand, who finished in 2:03.08. Rivers (4:58.76) also took first in the 500 freestyle. Second place went to Pioneer Trevor Schapiro (5:08.06). Linfield’s Ian Coker took third in 5:08.06.
Iwamasa (23.36) finished the 50 freestyle a full minute ahead of competitor River Pose (24.35) of Lewis & Clark.
Ian White finished the 100 backstroke a little over three seconds ahead of Lewis & Clark’s Poze with respective times of 56.61 and 1:00.12. White also prevailed in the 400 IM, winning in 4:31.16, a full nine seconds in front of runner-up Josh Spegman of L&C.
Linfield’s Chris Purdy took second place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.61. Tyler Moody of L&C edged Purdy with a time of 1:02.32.
NEXT: Linfield hosts Pacific Lutheran Saturday at 1 pm. Next week, the Wildcats welcome Willamette to the Linfield Aquatics Center Saturday at 1 p.m., mark the final dual meet prior to the 2013 Northwest Conference Championships.
