A freelance photographer captures the visual elements necessary to the stories that are printed in the newspaper. Photographers are specifically responsible for:

• A minimum of one assignment per week
• Checking in twice a week
• Checking tip sheets
• Communicating effectively (be it calling, e-mailing or talking in person) with reporters and editors for assignments and photo possibilities
• Write cutlines for all your photos in publication or online
• Working effectively with the photo editor
• Working effectively with the design desk in coordinating photo illustrations
• Flexible scheduling and being able to work on-call
• Attending required staff meetings and desk meetings as announced
• Setting individual goals each semester to improve journalistic skills
