Wildcats complete the winningest season in Linfield history

Linfield Baseball finished third at the NCAA Division III championship tournament, winning more games and NCAA playoff games than any team on record.

With its pitching staff running out of steam against one of the nation’s top hitting teams, Linfield was unable to pull one of its trademark comebacks out of the hat and instead fell 12-9 to SUNY-Cortland on Championship Tuesday at the NCAA Division III Finals at sun-soaked Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Following the Linfield game, Illinois Wesleyan went on to claim the NCAA title with a 17-5 win over SUNY-Cortland.

Though the Wildcats left the field without the national championship trophy they sought, players and coaches could take solace in the winningest baseball season in program history. Linfield won more regular season games (37) and NCAA playoff games (7) than any team on record while setting a bushel of individual and team records along the way.
