Linfield TaikoThis year 114 international students from 25 countries call Linfield home. The college Taiko Drummers gave them an enthusiastic send-off at a recent farewell reception.  (VIDEO)

Most international students hail from China, Vietnam and Japan.

Linfield also sends 100 students abroad to 24 locations around the world for semester- or year-long studies, and 150–200 students study abroad with their professors during the January term.

In 2002 Japanese Professor Chris Keaveney helped construct a taiko drum using donated wine barrels and a few cowhides, and collaborated with students and community members to form the first campus taiko ensemble.

Linfield Taiko now performs at campus and community cultural events. Although musicians perform some taiko standards, most of the repertoire is comprised of original compositions —with a dose of Latin flare.

Students in Japanese courses are particularly encouraged to participate, but other students and community members are also welcome to join.
