Student researchers spend summer exploring the unknown

Nanoparticles, augmented reality lenses, gluten-free Communion and sea stars – students participating in summer research projects at Linfield University sought to understand a wide range of subjects. Roughly two dozen students spent their summer working on collaborative research projects with faculty mentors from a variety of academic departments, including biology, chemistry, English and psychology. Best of all, these were all FUNDED research opportunities. About half of undergraduate students at Linfield participate in a research project before they graduate … and its not just sorting through papers and data. Take a look at some of the hands-on (and sometimes their full body too) ways that students spent their summer exploring the world around them.

Opening Convocation to welcome new students, families Aug. 25

A hand picks an acorn out of a bowl.Linfield University officially begins the 2023-24 school year with Opening Convocation, which is set for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25 in Ted Wilson Gymnasium on the McMinnville campus. Fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 28. 

Convocation is the traditional ceremony that celebrates the beginning of the new academic year. Linfield University President Miles K. Davis will preside over the ceremony, which features a special musical performance by Linfield alumnus Thomas Sagers ’23, as well as the university’s acorn tradition. Continue reading

Linfield Theatre announces 2023-24 season

The Linfield Art Gallery kicks off the fall 2023 semester with an exhibition of film and visual art from Outside the Frame, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides houseless folks ages 16-30 with job training, peer mentorship, a sense of dignity and, perhaps most importantly, a creative outlet and means of self-expression through filmmaking.   Continue reading
