A unique Linfield College research project was recently featured on a TV special produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting.
Oregon Field Guide interviewed students Casee Clark ’12, Chris Forrer ’13 and Caitlyn Olson ’13, and highlighted the unusual partnership between Linfield students and dory fishermen based in Pacific City, on the Oregon coast.
Pacific City owes its identity, and its fishing industry, to dory boats. During the past two years, the Linfield research team has collected oral histories from more than 80 dory fishermen and women, helping preserve the cultural history of one of the most unique fishing fleets in the world.
“Launching Through the Surf: The Dory Fleet of Pacific City” was spearheaded by Linfield College, in partnership with the Pacific City Arts Association and the Pacific City Dorymen’s Association. The project is directed by Professor Brenda DeVore Marshall.
